“Jump to” in Wikipedia snippet on Google SERPs

Just noticed that on searching “california sales tax rate” on Google there is a Jump to “California” link to Wikipedia’s Sales Tax in United States page. It seems like Google is using the internal link ‘#’ to have people “jump” to a particular section on the page. However, not all the states have “Jump to” links. New York, Oregon and Hawaii are a few states without the jump to link which I searched for. Nevada did have a jump to link .

Has anyone else seen this for websites other than wikipedia? Like Bing, has Google started indexing links with pound/hash sign? The Jump to links are not present for all the states because Google adds the “jump to” links based on link backs? This should be an interesting mini-project to look into. I will add more details here as I find out more about it.

Thank you Gaurav. I'm wondering if Google have already published something it in their documentation concerning this.

I found the same thing on Wikipedia (jump links in Google SERP), that's the reason why I searched Google & found this post.

TJ,

I searched Google for your site “Vodafone Business Contracts”, & actually was stumped for a min. your site is also showing up in Google SERP as “sub-jump links”.

If you go to your homepage click on the “Phones” jump-link the list that opens includes another jump-link “View All”, that “View-All” jump-link is the 4th url for jump-links that is listed in the Google SERP.

Very Cool! :)

I'm going to do some testing on one of my blogs.

Also If you search Google for any links that include the “Internet Movie Database” site, IMB shows the same type of jump-links as Wikipedia, in the Google SERP.
